So, what's it like to play Miley's TV boyfriend for four years? In an interview with MTV News, Linley fondly remembered his time spent with Cyrus, describing her as "super sweet" and "very fun;" someone who "taught [him] how to have fun on set and just, you know, laugh." During lunch breaks, the cast would rock out to in Cyrus's room, play the piano together, and even try their hand at ping pong. Later in the series, Linley's character appeared more sporadically, but he said there was always the same vibe when he returned, and everyone was continuously grateful for the show's success. And while he doesn't get the chance to see his TV girlfriend very often anymore, he still follows her achievements and is delighted at everything she's accomplished. It was a show full of big secrets, blonde wigs, good friends, and cute boys. One memorable character on the show was Jake Ryan, played by Cody Linley.“I even thought that we were going to be together, and it was so sweet, cause Miley was I think kinda bummed that they wrote my character out [of the show], but you know it’s a show, there is only two ways they could go with it, so I was happy for the time that I had."Even though their on-screen romance didn't pan out like he'd hoped, Linley is still keeping tabs on Cyrus and what she's doing.“Miley’s success has continued to grow, so I’m proud of her and her work ethic and to have been a part of something that made an impact,” he said.Later, in It's the End of the Jake as we Know it, Miley discovers Jake cheated on her and breaks up with him for good, allowing Miley to finally go out with Jesse. Miley cancels a special father-daughter afternoon with her dad to go on a first date with Jesse instead. After Jesse receives a phone call from his deployed father, their heartfelt conversation leads Miley to realize how fortunate she is to have a father.
Cue Jake Ryan (Cody Linley), a teen dreamboat who just so happened to be a famous actor.
Soon, Jesse winds up believing that she's hiding something from him.
To make her father thankful for Jake, she pretends to like Jesse, but gets in over her head when she starts to have feelings for him, so it's up to Miley to listen to her heart and choose the guy who could "be the one." In the end, she tells Jesse that there is just something between her and Jake that is special and chooses him over Jesse.
Despite his bad boy image, Jesse is shown to be very sharp, as he was able to deduce Miley was Hannah Montana through observation.
Miley Cyrus got her start on the Disney Channel show after convincing producers, who thought she was too young, that she was perfect for the role.
